2009 C13 Engine Fan Belt Diagram

  1. I cant tell if it the belt off alternator or serpentine belt or maybe something else like a bearing?? Any way is there something i can spray on the belts safely without hurting the belt to check if that is the problem first before i go to the next step. The motor was just rebuilt yesterday drove it 100 miles home did not make the noise when pick it up but went by this morning to check it out and did a pretrip and hear the squealing noise. Thanks

  3. Spray some penetrating oil into the center of the idler and tension pulleys. After the engine has been sitting for a while, bearings tend to stick a bit, kinda like my legs if I sit too long. They probably power washed it and got some water in there too. You can spray anything in short burst on each pulley one at a time to see which one is the culprit.
  4. hopefully all lashes are set properly in timing gears. id probably take belt off to verify if its internal or external.if its external spin bearings and accessories before reinstalling belt .did u change belt if so the tensioner should be done as well. they are designed to last the life of the belt if reused they usually fail before next belt wears out
  5. Never heard of that before. Tensioners and idler pulleys on mine went 1,001,600 and three sets of belts. Had them all replaced when the motor was overhauled.
  6. The belts are all fine tension is fine. When I spray the pulley and a little oil drips on belt it stops stops squealing. Then when it drys up the squeal comes back and if you give it gas or rev it up it gets really loud . Tried belt conditioner that did not work. All the pulleys are spinning?? The only thing I can think of is maybe one of the pulleys is not spinning fast enough then the belt gets hot or dries then the squeal comes back. But the belt is not hot??? I am lost the only thing is take it back to cummins in morning. I have 4 stops in the morning I am afraid the belt or something might go I don't want to be on side of road.

  8. No but the more I listen it sounds like the tension pully if I spray wd 40 in the pully it will stop for a 30 to 60 seconds then rev the motor and it comes back. How long 9f a job is it to take that off and replace and put on new belts does anyone know. Is something like that covered under warranty??
  9. The only way it could be under warranty is if it was replaced when they did the overhaul.
  10. Take the belt off and spin the pulleys by hand. Then you can see the one that the belt is slipping on.
  11. That is the first thing to do ! Especially if you can't remember the last time you did it lol
